STRESS AND HAPPINESS ASSIGNMENT

The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate your 1) knowledge and understanding of psychological theories and concepts – stress and happiness; 2) ability to interpret and analyze empirical data related to these concepts; and 3) apply what you have learned.

For this assignment, you will be using data collected in class on levels of Stress and Happiness, your text, and videos.

1. The averages that are already calculated and filled in, above, are needed for a more realistic comparison of your scores and our class to a LARGE N number class, in this case N=200 instead of N=20.

2 First, place your own submitted score for Total Happiness Total Stress and Age in the appropriate blank boxes under Your Average, above.  N means number of and here it is equal to 1 which is your score alone.

3. Second, add up the columns of numbers below and then divide by N or 20, (the number or responses in our class), to get the average for our class on Total Happiness, Total Stress scores and Age.  Then place those averages in the empty boxes above.  The Data is listed below:

· What are the findings for you and our class?

· What are the similarities and/or differences?

· Make sure you mention your own average and your class average numbers, which you calculated, in your essay. (The calculations are checked and points awarded for correctness).

· Compare the averages of males and females. What are the similarities and/or differences?

· Compare the ages of the classes, males, and females.  What are the similarities and/or differences?

· Draw a bar graph, line chart, or pie chart illustrating the different findings for you and the class, and for males and females and ages.

· Why do you think there are similarities or differences between a) your scores and the LARGE class; b) males and females c) ages?

PART II

Refer to the videos provided (MPL, in class, etc.), and information from Pearson’s Chapters 2, 9, and 10 (2, 9, 10, 11, & 12 in MPL).

What recommendations would you make to increase happiness and/or decrease stress in a college student? Justify your answer with examples and sound, evidence-based suggestions. (250 word minimum or about 1 ½ pages minimum). ***
